NBC's powerful new drama "Medical Investigation" has debuted in its regular Friday time period with the night's #1 results among adults 18-49 and overall total viewers, according to preliminary "fast affiliate-based" in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.

"I don't worry about those things," he said. "My job is to go to work every day and enjoy the process. I'm not thinking, 'boy I hope this goes 10 years.' I love doing what I do but it's certainly not the most important thing in my life. If this runs for a long time, great, if it doesn't I'll find another job doing something different." ]
7/18/04 - An article with Neal's comments regarding the "Boomtown" DVD:
[Boomtown star Neal McDonough was on the press tour to talk up his new NBC series, Medical Investigation, and took a minute to ponder the significance of Boomtown on DVD.

"It was a great thing for me, and I had the opportunity to play a terrific character. That other people get to see the show for years -- wow... it's kind of overwhelming, I think....
"This is a show that got canceled (early in its second season) and no one really watched that much," McDonough said. "That they're actually making a DVD collection of it, it must have been pretty good."]

And this is a quote from Neal prior to Sunday's race:
NEAL:
"We just had such a great time last year. It means a lot to me to be
here and see all the American flags and such, obviously being Memorial
Day weekend and being part of “Band of Brothers” and the opening of the
World War II Memorial, I would love to have been there for that, but I
was asked to come here first. So we’re here, and it’s just a really
neat weekend to be involved, given our involvement in "Band of
Brothers" and the memorial in Washington, D.C. That’s kind of the big
thing that’s been weighing on me. Yesterday, taking the parade around
the city, and there’s 400,000 people, lots of soldiers, it made me very
proud to be an American."
YOUR IMPRESSION OF THIS CITY AND THIS WEEKEND:
NEAL: "Indianapolis is dynamite, not just the architecture.
It’s just beautiful, feels like such an Americana-type town. But it is
a town, it doesn’t feel like a big city even though there are a lot of
people here, but it feels like a really big, welcoming town, and we’ve
really enjoyed ourselves here the last two years."

[Based on true accounts, these are the stories of the National
Institute of Health, America’s most elite unit of medical experts. But
these doctors don’t operate in a hospital. At a moment’s notice,
they’re summoned anywhere in the country, authorized to take over
treatment of any case. Each assignment is a life-or-death rescue
against time.]
Neal is, currently, shooting an ensemble film called "The
Chumscrubber". According to producer Lawrence Bender ("Kill
Bill"), "(The title is) the comic book character that's in the movie.
Bonnie Curtis, who was Steven Spielberg's right arm for about 10 years

Wilson.

4/08/04 - There
was a
small blurb about Neal in the Detroit Free Press:
[BOSTON ACTOR Neal McDonough, the Rock's nemesis in "Walking Tall",
appearing on "Best Damn Sports Show Period": "The first time I was ever
away from home, I came back six months later, I had my Yankees hat on,
my Yankees jacket on. I walked in the door and my four brothers and my
dad jumped me, beat me senseless, ripped it off, threw the stuff out
the door, put a Red Sox hat on me and said, 'Welcome home, Neal'."
And this appeared in the Boston Herald on March 30th:
[Hyannis' Neal McDonough: Playing bad
For a real sweetie pie, "Walking
Tall" star Neal McDonough can play one badass villain! Wherever does
the hunky Hyannis homeboy find all that evil?
"Well, people say that the most normal people play the
best bad guys," said McDonough, who plays The Rock's nemesis in the
remake of the 1973 flick. "But I really don't know what it is. I'm
nothing like the characters I play in the movies nor am I anything like
David Norris in 'Boomtown', but you pull things from people, I guess. I
was never a smoker, yet I know how to do it."
Guess that's why it's called
"acting", eh?
"I do enjoy playing bad guys though," said Neal, whose
flick premiered last night at Mann's Chinese Theatre and opens in
theaters Friday. "Because the more I do it, the more grateful I am for
my way of life."
And speaking of "the craft", the
mild-mannered McDonough comes out swinging at those who whack his
ex-wrestler co-star for his lack of traditional Hollywood training. Not
that The Rock needs extra muscle to handle his critics!
"I always say, 'Dude, he was on stage for 10 years and hit
his mark every night and there weren't any second takes'," he said. "I
think the movies were a natural progression for a great entertainer -
and a great guy."
Neal also gave "Jackass" star Johnny
Knoxville - who plays the Rock's old pal, Ray Templeton, in the action
flick - his props.
"Oh, he's twisted, but does a genuine job of acting in
this movie," said his cinematic compadre. "You'll see."
Since wrapping up "Walking Tall",
weathering the "Boomtown" bust and kicking back on his Hawaiian
honeymoon, Neal's been out straight working on an NBC medical mystery
pilot. The series, an "ER"-meets-"CSI" morph, also stars Kelli
Williams, a refugee of "The Practice," and "The Handler" gal Anna
Belknap. And it sounds like Neal's going to play a good guy - this time.
4/06/04 - Another
addition to
the cast of Neal's untitled NBC series - Clare Carey ("Coach") will have a recurring role
as Jess Bowman, the wife of Neal's character.
"Walking Tall" came in second at the box office with 15.5 million,
behind "Hellboy" (23.1 million).
There's a small photo of Neal in the new issue of "The Improper
Bostonian" (March 31 - April 13, 2004) from the "Betting On A Cause and
A Cure" charity event on January 31st. (Thanks to Sylvie!)
4/04/04 - Neal
will
appear on
"The Sharon Osbourne Show" on Thursday, April 8th. The show airs on
Superstation WGN weeknights at 1AM ET, 12AM CT, 11PM MT & 10PM PT.

And he is scheduled to appear on the "Best Damn Sports Show Period" on
Tuesday, April 6th. It airs on FOXSS at 11:00 p.m. (ET) and again on
April 7th at 7:00 a.m. (ET). (Thanks to Laura!)
This past week, CMT's "Top 20 Countdown" showed film
clips from
"Walking Tall" and had interviews with Neal, Johnny Knoxville, Ashley
Scott and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Here is the transcript of Neal's interview.

Also, there is a small photo of Neal in this week's
issue of "The
Improper Bostonian" (March 17-30,2004). It was taken at the 13th annual
Massachussetts Movie Awards Gala on February 29th. (Thanks to
Sylvie!)

4/01/04 - Here's what the
critics are saying about Neal's performance as Jay Hamilton in "Walking
Tall":
"McDonough
oozes a natural arrogance onscreen as Vaughns slimy adversary..."
"His high school rival Neal McDonough
(from TV's "Boomtown" and a great villain)..."
"Hamilton, played fiercely by the convincing Neal
McDonough, runs the town like a Pacific Northwest despot..."
"But credit should go to McDonough, who
emblazons his character with a toughness of body and mind and gives the
battle suspense."
"Instead, he finds that it has been closed by Jay Hamilton (the
wonderfully slimy Neal McDonough)..."
"McDonough, who made a lasting impression
as the conflicted, tortured D.A. David McNorris on NBC's late,
much-lamented cop drama "Boomtown," lends an air of legitimacy. The
best performer in the movie, he's sadly underused."
"On the other hand, McDonough's evil
smirk alone is enough for him to fall right into the sterotypical
villain's shoes."
"...but credit must also go to villain Neal
McDonough (Timeline), who bears more than a passing resemblance
to Spike, Buffy the Vampire Slayer's charismatic blood-sucking
antihero. Possessing the greatest character arc in the film, McDonough moves effortlessly from charming
huckster to ice-cold kingpin, in a performance undoubtedly inspired by
numerous studio executives."
The

Photos from
the world premiere of "Walking Tall" have been added.
Also, there was a small blurb on MTV.com about Neal's new series:
[Neal McDonough of "Minority Report," who garnered rave reviews for the
NBC drama "Boomtown," hopes to return to the small screen. "I'm working
on a new pilot ... an untitled medical mystery drama," he said. "I'm
going to have a great time playing this character for a very long time.
He has his flaws and he has his issues, but deep down he cares about
humanity so much and that's what makes the show so compelling."]
3/31/04 - Excerpt from
Neal's
appearance on "The Craig Kilborn Show" regarding his new series:
CK: You've got a new
series
this fall.
Neal: Yeah, a new one
for NBC.
It's a medical mystery/drama. It's untitled at
this point. I play the lead doctor on the show and I'm really looking
forward
to it. The people at NBC - Chris Conti and Kevin Reilly - they're very
supportive of the project and it's nice to be back on television.
CK: You've been on NBC
before?
Neal: Yeah, "Boomtown"
was on
NBC. So, I'm looking forward to that, but this
weekend "Walking Tall" comes out for MGM and...

Tall", 3/29/04
Also,
an interview with Neal from the premiere:
So whats it like being the bad
guy
and fighting The Rock?
It was fun. No, thank God it was a movie because in real life, it would
be a whole different story. It was a terrific time for myself. Rock is
so good at the physical but hes equally as gifted at the acting.
Thats what made Walking Tall a really great, wonderful film, I
think. Hes such a wonderful guy that it was infectious on the set.
Everybody worked really hard making sure it was a
really good film.
I read in the production notes
that
you do have an athlete side, though we dont usually see it in your
choice of roles.
Oh yeah, I played football and sports and baseball through college. I
still play sports pretty much every day. That definitely helps when it
came to this character. Im not kidding you, I had probably the best
time in my life doing
this movie. It was really wonderful.
Even though it was a pretty
serious
drama, it was a fun time on the set?
It was a great time on the set. Rocks funny and really personable. Im
kind of a quiet guy, I dont really say too much, and we had a really
wonderful time.
Does the theme of one man against
the
society play as well now as it did back when the original Walking
Tall was released?
I think more so now. I think when you look at all the small towns in
America, all the drugs that are happening, all the corruption that is
going on, we need guys like Buford Pusser - or like Chris Vaughn in
this instance to stand up to the guys who are getting away with
stuff. Im very proud of this film, very proud of the message that this
film has.
In the final fight scene with The
Rock, how much of that is you and how much is a stuntman?
100% of it is me. That was me falling down the shaft. That was fun. It
hurt a little bit but it worked.
Any accidents on the set?
No, we got through it unscathed. It was pretty amazing.
What do you think fans of the
original will think of this version?
I think fans are going to love it. It holds pretty true to the
original. There are a few other elements, Ashley [Scott] and The Rock
have a great romance, Johnny Knoxville is really funny, but it holds
really true to the original. I
think theyre going to be very excited by it. I think the whole Pusser
family is going to be very excited about it.
The original spawned a couple of
sequels. Will this one?
Boy I hope so. It would be a lot of fun. Ill come out of prison and
hunt The Rock down one more time.
So no one has signed on yet for a
sequel?
No, not yet. Well see how this one does.

well as interviews with The Rock, Khleo Thomas and Michael Bowen at Romantic Movies.com

Hyannis
homey and actor
Neal McDonough joins Mass. Film Bureau exec Robin Dawson in announcing
plans for the MFB's annual black-tie Oscar Night bash at the Wang
Center Feb. 29.
2/09/04 - From the Boston Herald:
Hyannis homey Neal McDonough, who the critics thought was
boffo in "Boomtown," will be back next season in an NBC medical mystery
that he describes as "CSI" meets "ER".
McDonough will star as a doctor who heads up a team of
epidemic experts who are deployed when there's an outbreak of SARS or
some public health scare.
"It's been pretty scary researching this," Neal told the
Track. "There are actual teams like this who are deployed but the
public isn't aware of it. Because, of course, if news leaked out, there
would be public hysteria."
The actor, who says he will "infuse as much Boston" into
his new character as he did in "Boomtown," said when he and his bride,
Ruve, return from their belated Hawaiian honeymoon, the producers will
cast his team. Filming begins in March.
Neal was back in Boston this week to headline the Mass.
Film Bureau's media op the other day where he and MFB exec Robin Dawson
revealed plans for the bureau's annual black-tie Oscar Night bash at
the Wang Center Feb. 29. Other local Hollywood types
heading home for the Academy Awards throwdown include Neal's "Boomtown"
and "Band of Brothers" brethren, Donnie Wahlberg; Ken Howard ("Crossing
Jordan") and Kevin Chapman ("Mystic River").
Tickets cost $150 per person and can be reserved at

dinner beforehand, the price goes up to $500 each.

prediction:
"I said it two years ago and I'll say it again this year. It's going to
be a whipping. My whole family is going to be on Cape Cod. I could go
to Houston and hang out with 100,000 knuckleheads or go back to Cape
Cod and hang out with my 10 favorite knuckleheads of all time. New

- The Futon Critic compiled their annual list of the
50 best episodes of the past year. One episode of "Boomtown" made the
list.
[38. "Boomtown: Execution" (NBC)
originally aired: March 6, 2003
The last real showcase of the David McNorris character (Neal
McDonough), this episode once again proved why "Boomtown" is the
biggest loss of 2003. Just hours before his execution, a gangbanger
tells McNorris to call off the proceedings or a cop kidnapped by his
cohorts will be killed as well. And in typical "Boomtown" style the
conclusion is the last thing you'd expect.]

- In the new
TV Guide
(December 27 - January 2), Matt Roush says the following about
"Boomtown":
[Usually when a show is yanked off the air, it's the last you see of
it. But, NBC has given fans of Boomtown a treat. The network hasn't
reversed its regrettable decision to cancel this superior crime drama,
but the four episodes that were left unseen are being shown on December
27 (8-11 pm/ET) and 28 (at 10). Despite NBC's mandate to make the
show's stories more linear and less complicated, these generally
compelling episodes show that Boomtown could still pull off some
startling plot twists. And though underused here, Neal McDonough as
cocky deputy district attorney David McNorris remains one of TV's most
electrifying characters. He's terribly missed.]

Congratulations to Neal
and Ruve on their wedding! May they have a lifetime of happiness and
many tall, beautiful, blue-eyed children.
From the Boston Globe:
BOOMTOWN HITCH
Actor Neal McDonough, a Cape Cod native, and his
galpal, Ruve Robertson, got married yesterday (12/01) in
Beverly Hills, Calif., the family confirmed. The duo,
who regularly travel to the Boston area to see family
and friends and support local causes, including the
Massachusetts Film Bureau, had been engaged for more
than a year. The couple tried to make plans to have a
Cape Cod ceremony, but with the filming for
McDonough's show "Boomtown" (currently on hiatus on
NBC) and shooting for the recently released
"Timeline," it proved difficult. So, family --
including members of Robertson's family, who winged to
Los Angeles from their native South Africa -- gathered
in Beverly Hills for a smaller church ceremony,
followed by a reception at a country club.
11/26/03 - "Timeline"
will open in wide release today. Here
