| You know 'em, you
love 'em, you missed 'em - now catch up with the familiar faces returning to TV this season PLEASE ALLOW THEM TO RE-INTRODUCE THEMSELVES That was then: On the late, lamented Boomtown, he was David McNorris - a prickly, intense Irish-American deputy DA with a troubled marriage and a drinking problem. In McDonough's words, "a mess". This is now: He's Medical Investigation's Stephen Connor - a prickly, intense Irish-American epidemiologist with a troubled marriage and a dark secret. On the NBC drama, the doc heads up a mobile medical team called in to investigate unexplained illnesses. Think CSI with nasty microbes as the bad guys. Between then and now: "I got married [to South African Ruve Robertson] and went on a month-and-a-half honeymoon. We bounced all over - from Cape Cod to Hawaii to London and to South Africa, where we had our second wedding ceremony." What I like about my new character: "Something happened in his life that makes him obsessed with finding the answers to diseases that are killing people. Yet there's a part of him that really loathes the idea that he's so myopic...If he could, I'm sure that he'd trade it all in to be an insurance salesman in his hometown and spend his life with his wife and son. If the old TV character squared off against the new one, who'd win? "If it were a straight fight, Connor would win. He had 10 years in the military. He's definitely trained in how to crush people. When it comes to drinking and doing shots, there ain't no question: McNorris has him." |
| KELLI
WILLIAMS This is now: She's Natalie Durant, a pathologist on Medical Investigation, "a voice of reason", according to the actress. Between then and now: "I had my third child four months after I left The Practice. I took about a year off, so I got to spend a ton of time with my kids. [Kiran, 6, Sarame, 3, and Ravi, 1]." What I like about my new character: "I'm playing another smart career woman who's single. The interesting thing is that as the episodes unfold, we'll find out that her work life has interrupted her personal life." If the old TV character squared off against the new one, who'd win? "There'd be tough competition. Lindsay has the lawyer chops to argue her way out of something, but Natalie's not easily intimidated. They'd end in a draw." |
